Replacement recipes

Keep the features you use. Stop renting the rest.

Each recipe maps the part of a product you actually use to every way out: a cheaper vendor, an open-source tool, pay per use, or a spec to replace it with AI. Search by the vendor you pay, a feature, or a category. Any AI agent can search the same catalog through the Stackcut MCP server.

Modeled, not measured. Savings use public prices and planning assumptions: the bill you stop paying, minus the new tool, your upkeep time and your setup time at $50/hour, over the first 12 months. Paths marked Tested by Stackcut were run end to end by us on our own products. They're our tests, not customer results. Check the must-haves in each recipe before you switch.

The $55 baseline is Zendesk Suite Team (checked 2026-09-25); Intercom, Help Scout and Front users are costed at their own plan (recipe baselines).
  • Tested by Stackcut: 12 of 12 test tickets passed a strict independent grader after 5 rounds. our test
  • No new subscription if you already pay for an agent that runs skills: a skill is a folder of files the agent loads. agentskills.io
  • Drafts only: nothing is sent, deleted or changed without a person. our test

  • Fixing one rule can break another reply; re-run the whole ticket set after every change. our test
  • Help Scout's free plan (5 users, 1 inbox, 100 contacts a month) may already cover a tiny team. helpscout.com
Step-by-step: set up, move your data, check, roll back · about 4 h (estimate)

Keep answering from your normal inbox; your agent drafts each reply from a skill folder and you send it after a check.

Writing the reference files and a 12-ticket test set. Each test round took about 6.5 minutes of agent time.

Before you start

  1. Export tickets before you cancel. Zendesk: JSON export (CSV leaves out comments), which Zendesk Support must enable first. support.zendesk.com
  2. Pull your 20 most common questions and your macros; they become the reference files.

Set up

  1. Use the Agent Skills layout: a SKILL.md (when to use it, the output format, a Never list) plus a references/ folder for product facts, troubleshooting, policies, voice and escalation. agentskills.io
  2. Write a ready-made answer for every privacy and billing question. These were where drafts went wrong in our test. our test
  3. Write 10 to 15 realistic test tickets and a pass/fail rubric before the first run.

Move your data

  1. Turn macros into the troubleshooting and policies files; keep the ticket export as your archive.

Check it worked

  1. Have one agent draft all test tickets and a separate agent grade them against the rubric; fix the reference files, not the drafts. our test
  2. Only go live when every ticket passes, then spot-check real drafts for two weeks.

Roll back

  1. Zendesk starts deleting data 90 days after cancellation; restart within that window to get tickets back. support.zendesk.com

Watch out for

  1. Zendesk needs cancellation notice 30 days before the term ends, or it auto-renews. zendesk.com

A few keyword-volume checks a month from an agent or script. Not Semrush's own numbers: Semrush data through treg needs your own Semrush API plan.
Porting: Export your Semrush keyword lists and projects as CSV before you cancel; history doesn't carry over.
  • Tested by Stackcut: DataForSEO returned volumes for 9 of 10 keywords for $0.09 per call (up to 1,000 keywords)
  • SE Ranking data measured at about $0.0018 per keyword
  • Set up in about 5 minutes; the treg CLI shows each endpoint's price before you call it
  • Different numbers than Semrush: "delete me review" was 480 in Semrush and 5,400 in DataForSEO. Pick one provider and compare trends
  • Coverage gaps in our test: SE Ranking had no data for 4 of 10 keywords, Serpstat for 3
  • No UI: CLI, API or agent only
  • No rank tracking, backlinks or site audit
  • Semrush's own data through treg needs your own Semrush API credential, so it doesn't remove the Semrush bill
Step-by-step: set up, move your data, check, roll back · about 15 min (measured)

Keep Semrush for a month while you run your usual keyword checks through treg, then cancel.

About 5 minutes to sign in and make the first call in our test.

Before you start

  1. Export your Semrush keyword lists (Keyword Strategy Builder) and Position Tracking tables as CSV. There's no bulk project export. semrush.com
  2. Write down the 10 to 20 keywords you check most. You'll compare them in both tools.

Set up

  1. Sign up at treg.to. New accounts get $1.00 of free credit. treg.to
  2. Install the treg CLI (or add its MCP server to your agent) and sign in.
  3. Pick one keyword-volume provider and stay on it. In our test DataForSEO covered 9 of 10 keywords for $0.09 per call (up to 1,000 keywords per call). our test

Move your data

  1. Run your saved keyword list through the provider once and save the result as your new baseline. Don't compare it number-for-number with Semrush.

Check it worked

  1. Check the same keywords in both tools for one month. Trends should move the same way even if absolute volumes differ (ours differed by up to 10x on one keyword). our test
  2. Check your treg balance after a normal week of use to confirm the monthly cost.

Roll back

  1. Until the Semrush term ends you can keep using it. After that, a new Semrush subscription is a fresh start; exported CSVs are your history.

Watch out for

  1. treg's Semrush endpoints need your own Semrush API credential, so they don't remove the Semrush bill. Use DataForSEO, SE Ranking or Serpstat instead. our test
  2. Month-to-month Semrush plans get no refund; cancel before the renewal date. semrush.com

Tally Free: unlimited forms and submissions, conditional logic, uploads (10 MB per file), webhooks, CSV download. Custom domains need Pro.
  • Free plan covers conditional logic, file uploads (10 MB per file), webhooks and CSV download, with unlimited submissions. tally.so
  • One-click Typeform import brings over questions, options, required settings, welcome and thank-you screens. tally.so
  • Webhooks can be signed (Tally-Signature header) and are retried for about a day. tally.so
  • Free plan keeps Tally branding; custom domains and partial submissions need Pro ($24/mo). tally.so
  • Logic jumps don't always map one-to-one; re-check every branch after import. tally.so
  • Old responses don't transfer: the importer brings the form, not submissions. tally.so
  • Your data moves to another processor (stored in the EU). Update your privacy policy if you list processors. tally.so
Step-by-step: set up, move your data, check, roll back · about 1 h (estimate)

Import the form into Tally for free, run both for a week, then cancel Typeform after exporting responses and files.

Import is one click; most time goes to re-checking logic and reconnecting integrations.

Before you start

  1. Export responses as CSV or XLSX (Results → Responses → Export) and file uploads as a ZIP ("File uploads only"). help.typeform.com
  2. List every webhook and integration that reads Typeform responses. Each needs re-pointing. typeform.com

Set up

  1. In Tally, import the Typeform form (free for all Tally users). tally.so
  2. Re-check conditional logic and reconnect integrations (Slack, Notion, Google Sheets, Zapier). tally.so
  3. Turn on webhook signing and verify the Tally-Signature header in your receiver. tally.so

Move your data

  1. Keep the exported Typeform CSV and ZIP as your archive. Tally won't import historical submissions. tally.so
  2. Swap the form link or embed everywhere it appears (site, emails, bio links).

Check it worked

  1. Submit a test for every branch of your logic and check it arrives by webhook and in the CSV.
  2. Upload a file near your largest real size; the free plan caps files at 10 MB. tally.so

Roll back

  1. Typeform cancellation can be undone until the paid period ends ("Stop! I changed my mind"). help.typeform.com

Watch out for

  1. After cancelling, Typeform forms that use paid features stop accepting responses, and the free plan allows 10 responses a month. help.typeform.com

  • Tested by Stackcut: an agent built it from the packet in 26 minutes with 74 tests and no npm dependencies. our test
  • Imported a Typeform-format export without loss (252 of 252 cells), and re-running the import added nothing. our test
  • Submissions stay in your own database; consent and approval gates are yours to define. our test
  • Tally's free plan already covers all six Must-haves for most teams. tally.so
  • The builder's own tests missed 1 medium and 6 low security issues that an independent check found. our test
  • You need somewhere always-on to run it; a serverless stack needs a port, not a copy. our test
Step-by-step: set up, move your data, check, roll back · about 3 h (estimate)

Only if Tally's free plan fails a real requirement. Hand the packet to a coding agent, then have a second agent test it before it takes real data.

The build itself took an agent 26 minutes in our test. The rest is your review, the security fixes, hosting and cutover.

Before you start

  1. Write down the requirement Tally's free plan fails. If you can't, use Tally. tally.so
  2. Export Typeform responses (CSV) and file uploads (ZIP) before anything else. help.typeform.com

Set up

  1. Give your coding agent SPEC.md, AGENTS.md and a one-page brief naming your exact forms and fields.
  2. Have a second agent (or a person) run it from the outside: forms, logic, uploads, webhook retries, import twice, access, delete, backup and restore. our test
  3. Fix at least: admin login rate limit, CSRF/Origin check, revocable sessions, file permissions, and real deletion (WAL and backups). our test

Move your data

  1. Import the Typeform CSV keyed on its # response token so re-runs create no duplicates. our test
  2. Download file uploads from the export's file URLs or the ZIP export before you cancel. help.typeform.com

Check it worked

  1. Import twice: row counts match the export and the second run adds 0.
  2. Kill your webhook receiver for an hour and check deliveries retry and failures show up.
  3. Restore last night's backup into a new folder and compare exports.

Roll back

  1. Keep Typeform until the paid period ends; cancellation is reversible until then. help.typeform.com

Watch out for

  1. Build-packet acceptance tests are generic; write concrete ones (exact size limits, import re-runs) before building. our test
