Add Stackcut to Chrome

It finds receipts, renewals and trials in your Gmail from the last 3 months, reads the prices, and opens your savings plan. A scan takes a few minutes. Needs Google Chrome 116 or later on a computer.

Install it in 5 steps with Load unpacked

Until the Chrome Web Store listing is live, you load the extension yourself in developer mode. It takes about a minute.

    Download and unzip

    Save stackcut-extension-v1.3.1.zip and double-click it. You get a folder with manifest.json inside. Keep the folder somewhere safe: Chrome runs the extension from it.

    Open the extensions page

    Type chrome://extensions in Chrome's address bar and press Enter.

    Turn on Developer mode

    Use the Developer mode switch at the top right of the page. See screenshot 1.

    Click Load unpacked

    Pick the unzipped folder, the one with manifest.json in it. Stackcut appears in your list of extensions. See screenshot 2.

    Pin it and scan Gmail

    Pin Stackcut from the puzzle-piece menu. Open Gmail, click the Stackcut icon, and start a scan in the side panel. See screenshot 3.

What you'll see

  1. Screenshot 1. The chrome://extensions page. The Developer mode switch sits at the top right. Turn it on (it turns blue).
  2. Screenshot 2. A button row appears at the top left. Click Load unpacked, then select the unzipped folder (the one with manifest.json).
  3. Screenshot 3. The Stackcut card shows version 1.2.0 and is switched on. In Gmail, the Stackcut icon opens a side panel on the right with Start scan.
  • Chrome may remind you that developer mode extensions are on. That's expected for a beta installed this way.
  • To update from v1.1, download the new zip, replace the folder's contents, then click the reload arrow on the Stackcut card in chrome://extensions.
  • To remove it, click Remove on the Stackcut card. If you want its data gone too, first click Delete my scan on your results page.

Two scan modes

Page mode is the default and works for everyone. Deep scan is the most accurate, and is open only to test users for now: the side panel recommends it when your Google account can use it.

For everyone · No sign-in

Shown in the side panel as Start scan (the standard scan).

  • No Google sign-in and no Gmail API access.
  • Runs Gmail searches for receipts, renewals and trials in your own Gmail tab and reads every page of results from the last 3 months.
  • Reads what the result list shows: sender, subject, the preview line and the date. When a receipt shows no price there, it opens that email in your tab (up to 150 per scan) and reads up to 2,000 characters of its text to get the amount. Opened emails are marked as read.
  • Keep the Gmail tab open while it runs. Your tab steps through search results, then goes back to where you were.

Deep scan

Shown in the side panel as Deep scan, marked Recommended when your Google account already allows it.

  • Sign in with Google and allow read-only Gmail access (gmail.readonly).
  • The fastest and most accurate mode: reads the latest receipts from each company (up to 2,000 characters each) and matches monthly repeats by date, so a scan takes a couple of minutes.
  • Never reads attachments. You can remove access any time in your Google Account.
  • While Google reviews the app, only Google accounts on Stackcut's test-user list can sign in. Everyone else uses Page mode.

In both modes, nothing in your inbox is sent, deleted or labeled. Email text is classified by AI with zero data retention, then discarded. We keep only billing facts: vendor, plan, amount, date, sender and subject line. Details are in the privacy policy.
