Cancel subscriptions on iPhone, Android, Amazon, Roku and PayPal

When Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or PayPal takes the payment, the cancel option usually sits with them, not on the service's website. Here are each platform's own steps, what happens after, and the services that stopped selling through them.

Sourced. Every number links the page it came from: the service's page in the Stackcut cancel library, or the company's or platform's own help page. Terms change and differ by country, so check the linked page before you rely on a date, a fee or a refund.

The short answer

  • iPhone or iPad: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, the subscription, then Cancel Subscription. support.apple.com
  • Android: subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription, then Cancel subscription. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel it. support.google.com
  • Roku: my.roku.com/subscriptions, Manage subscription, then Turn off auto-renew. Disney+, Hulu and Sling TV manage their own plans even when Roku bills you. support.roku.com
  • Amazon: subscriptions started on a Fire TV or Fire tablet cancel at amazon.com/appstoresubscriptions; Prime Video channels cancel under Manage Your Prime Video Channels. Stackcut cancel guide: HBO Max
  • PayPal: Settings, Payments, Subscriptions and saved businesses or Automatic Payments, then the merchant, where you can cancel the automatic payment. paypal.com

How do I know if Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or PayPal bills me?

Check the receipt or the statement line before you open any settings. When a platform took the payment, its settings are usually where you cancel, and the service's own website may show no cancel option at all. If the charge names the service itself or your phone company, see How to cancel a subscription (2026): find who bills you first; for team plans billed by invoice, see How to cancel business software: admins, contracts, seats and data.

Cancelling in the wrong place can leave the charge running. Everand (Scribd) warns that if you signed up through Apple, cancelling on its website won't stop those charges. Stackcut cancel guide: Everand (Scribd)

  • Apple: search your email for "receipt from Apple" or "invoice from Apple"; the receipt shows which Apple Account paid. support.apple.com
  • Google Play: if you can't find the subscription, it may be on a different Google Account, so switch accounts and look again. support.google.com
  • Roku: charges show as "Roku", "Roku for ___" or "The Roku Channel", and Roku-billed plans are listed at my.roku.com/subscriptions. support.roku.com
  • Tinder: order numbers starting with MK are billed by Apple, GPA by Google Play, and TNDR by Tinder itself. Stackcut cancel guide: Tinder
  • Fubo: the subscription page says Roku Subscription when Roku bills you. Stackcut cancel guide: Fubo

How to cancel a subscription on iPhone or iPad

Open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions. Tap the subscription, then Cancel Subscription; you might need to scroll down to find the button. support.apple.com

If there's no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already cancelled. If you signed up for a free trial, Apple asks you to cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends; other deadlines are in When to cancel a free trial or renewal so you aren't charged. support.apple.com

On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, click your name again, then Subscriptions. On a Windows PC, open the Apple Music or Apple TV app, click your name, choose View My Account, click Manage next to Subscriptions, then Edit and Cancel Subscription. On an Android phone, cancel an Apple-billed subscription at account.apple.com. support.apple.com

Can't find it? The receipt shows which Apple Account paid, so sign in to that account. You can't cancel a family member's subscription, so ask the family member whose account is on the receipt. support.apple.com

How to cancel a subscription on Android (Google Play)

On your Android device, go to subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. On a computer, click Manage next to the subscription, then Cancel subscription, pick a reason and click Continue. support.google.com

You can still use the subscription for the time you've already paid. In Google's example, a 1-year, $10 subscription bought on January 1 and cancelled on July 1 stays usable until December 31 and isn't charged again. support.google.com

Google may refund a purchase within 48 hours, depending on the details. After 48 hours, contact the app's developer, who can refund under its own policies and applicable laws. support.google.com

How to cancel a subscription billed by Amazon

Amazon bills subscriptions in more than one way, and each kind has its own page. Amazon's help pages don't allow automated reading, so the steps below come from the services' own help pages; if a screen doesn't match, follow what Amazon shows you.

  • Subscriptions started on a Fire TV or Fire tablet (billed through the Amazon Appstore): HBO Max's help says to sign in at amazon.com/appstoresubscriptions, find the subscription under Your Subscriptions and turn off auto-renewal. You should then get a confirmation email from Amazon, and you can keep streaming until the billing period ends. Stackcut cancel guide: HBO Max
  • Prime Video channels: go to Manage Your Prime Video Channels, find the service under Your Channels and cancel it, with the button HBO Max's help calls Cancel Channel. HBO Max says a cancelled channel then shows a subscription end date on that page. Stackcut cancel guide: HBO Max
  • MasterClass bought through Amazon: turn off auto-renewal under Your Memberships and Subscriptions on the Amazon website; for a refund, choose Return for Refund next to the order in Your Orders. Stackcut cancel guide: MasterClass
  • Hulu billed through Amazon: cancel on Hulu.com or through Amazon Pay, and keep access until the end of the billing cycle. Stackcut cancel guide: Hulu
  • Kindle Unlimited is a membership of its own, separate from Amazon Prime, so each is cancelled on its own page. Stackcut cancel guide: Kindle Unlimited

How to cancel a subscription on Roku

On the web, go to my.roku.com/subscriptions, select the subscription under Active subscriptions, choose Manage subscription and then Turn off auto-renew. On the TV, press Home, highlight the app, press the Star button, choose Manage subscription and Turn off auto-renew, and enter your Roku PIN if you set one. support.roku.com

You keep access until the current billing cycle ends, and Roku gives no partial-term refunds. Cancel a free trial before it ends to avoid recurring charges. support.roku.com

Disney+, Hulu and Sling TV are the exception: Roku processes the charge, but those services manage the subscription, so contact them directly; Roku's page lists their phone numbers. If you subscribed directly with a streaming service, such as YouTube TV or Spotify, Roku says to cancel with that service, not through Roku. support.roku.com

How to stop a subscription paid with PayPal or Venmo

On the PayPal website, go to Settings, click Payments, then select Subscriptions and saved businesses or Automatic Payments. Select the merchant, and on that page you can cancel the automatic payment. paypal.com

PayPal's page covers the automatic payment and doesn't say what happens to the plan itself. Check the plan's status in the service's own account too.

Does deleting the app cancel a subscription?

No. Google Play's help says that when you uninstall an app, your subscription won't cancel, and a Google Play subscription is charged each billing cycle unless you unsubscribe. support.google.com

Services say the same on their own help pages. Deleting your account is no shortcut either: it can leave the billing running and lose the time you've paid for. Save your data before you delete anything; Export your data before you cancel: files, photos, playlists, notes shows how.
