How to cancel Shopify

Store owners cancel in the Shopify admin: Settings > Plan > Cancel plan, pick a reason, enter your password, click Cancel plan (same in the app). Shopify Plus stores go through Plus Support. Gotcha: no refund for unused time, pending app charges bill at once, and domain renewals aren't cancelled.

The short answer

  • Where: From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Plan (admin.shopify.com).
  • When it ends: At the end of the current billing cycle: the store deactivates and you lose access to the Shopify admin.
  • Before you go: export Store information (products, customers, orders and other data). What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Pause and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Retention step: Before the final step the flow offers downgrade, Pause and build or a new store, and asks for a reason for the deactivation
  • Domain renewals aren't cancelled with the store: transfer the domain or turn off its renewal
  • Third-party apps can keep charging while a store is paused
  • Shopify Support can't deactivate your store for you: the store owner must cancel in the admin or the app (Shopify Plus stores contact Plus Support)
  • Apps billed outside Shopify billing aren't stopped by cancelling: review them so they don't charge you after the store closes

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/shopify.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.

Delete your account (separate from cancelling)

Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated hard).
