The short answer
- Where: On a desktop computer or the web (not the mobile app), open Settings in the left-hand sidebar, then Billing.
- When it ends: The workspace is downgraded at the end of the billing cycle; paid features stay until then.
- Billed by someone else? Cancel with them instead: Apple or Google Play.
- Before you go: export All pages in the workspace you can access, with the files uploaded to them. What to save
- Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options
Before you cancel
Export first
- All pages in the workspace you can access, with the files uploaded to them: Open Settings; under Workspace select General, then Export all workspace content. Notion emails a download link (HTML, Markdown, or CSV (for databases)). Exports can take up to 30 hours; the link expires after 7 days; pages you can't access (such as other members' private pages) are left out; owners can switch off Disable export under Settings, Security if exports are blocked notion.com
What happens to your data
Downgrading keeps the workspace and its content under Free plan limits. Deleting a workspace is permanent for everyone in it; Notion keeps database backups that can restore a snapshot of content from the past 30 days.
What you lose
- Page history older than 7 days
- Guests beyond 10
- Extra domains: only one domain keeps working
- Automations become view-only
- SAML SSO, verified domains, SCIM API and the audit log (Enterprise features)
Cancel, by who bills you
Pick the route for whoever charges you: the name on your card statement or receipt tells you.

For AI agents
- The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
- Retention step: The downgrade flow asks for feedback before the Downgrade button
- Only workspace owners can view and manage plans and billing
- Plan changes only work on desktop or web, not in the mobile apps
- Plans renew automatically every month or year until cancelled; yearly plans renew on the same calendar day
- Each paid workspace is billed separately: downgrade each one
- Deleting a workspace doesn't cancel a subscription: downgrade first
- A Business Plan trial started with payment details auto-renews into the paid plan: cancel it from Settings, then Explore plans
- Bought in the iOS app? Cancel and ask for refunds through Apple, not Notion
- Organizations with more than 100 employees are sent to Notion's sales team; Enterprise contract terms aren't in the help center
Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/notion.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.
Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
Delete your account (separate from cancelling)
Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated easy).
