The short answer
- Where: Click your profile avatar in the bottom left of your dashboard and select Billing (publish.buffer.com).
- When it ends: The plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, then the account moves to the Free plan.
- Billed by someone else? Cancel with them instead: Apple or Google Play.
- Before you go: export Insights (analytics): summary, posts and time series; chart snapshots as images. What to save
- Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options
Before you cancel
Export first
- Insights (analytics): summary, posts and time series; chart snapshots as images: Open Insights and use the Export button at the top of the page, near the date range and filter controls: Export to CSV, Export to Markdown, Export as PDF, or Download Snapshots (CSV (a .zip of three CSV files), Markdown, PDF, or images). CSV, Markdown and PDF exports need a paid plan; snapshots work on every plan. Buffer's Terms make you responsible for keeping copies of your own content support.buffer.com buffer.com
What happens to your data
The account continues on the Free plan: locked channels stay connected and unlock if you upgrade again, and saved ideas remain. Deleting the account is permanent and removes every account tied to that email; the Terms say you may lose access to your content when an account is terminated.
What you lose
- Channels beyond three: they are locked (still connected, not usable)
- Scheduling more than 10 posts per channel
- Post history older than 30 days in the Sent tab
- Access for additional users
- Insights exports to CSV, Markdown and PDF
Cancel, by who bills you

Keep it for less
Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

For AI agents
- The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
- Retention step: Before the final confirmation, the flow shows which channels will lock, asks why you're leaving in a short survey, and shows a summary of your Buffer activity
- Only the account owner can reach Billing or delete the account
- Keep My Plan on the Billing page undoes a cancellation before the cancellation date
- Subscriptions bought in the mobile app can only be cancelled and refunded through Apple or Google
- A trial with a card on file upgrades to paid at the end; cancel the trial in Billing to avoid the first payment
- Legacy customers with both a Publish and an Analyze subscription should make sure both are cancelled
- Deleting the account (Settings, Delete My Buffer Account) is permanent and is not needed to stop billing
- Cancelling can forfeit an older price: if you come back later, you may pay current pricing
Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/buffer.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.
Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
