How to cancel Salesforce

Most Salesforce subscriptions are annual contracts that renew for one-year terms unless you give written notice (email acceptable) at least 30 days before the term ends. Fees are non-refundable and quantities can't drop mid-term, so cut seats or products at renewal. Request any data export within 30 days of termination.

The short answer

  • Where: Find the subscription term and its end date in your Order Form: the term is whatever the Order Form specifies, and it can override the MSA's renewal terms.
  • When it ends: At the end of the current subscription term.
  • Contract notice: Written notice (email acceptable) at least 30 days before the end of the subscription term; otherwise the subscription renews for another one-year term, unless the Order Form says otherwise. How to give notice
  • Before you go: export A backup of your org's data, by the data types you choose. What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Fewer seats and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

  • A backup of your org's data, by the data types you choose: From Setup, enter Data Export in the Quick Find box, select Data Export, then Export Now or Schedule Export; Salesforce emails the user who scheduled it when the file is ready (Zip archive of CSV files). Manual backups once every 7 days (weekly export: Enterprise, Performance and Unlimited Editions) or every 29 days (monthly export: all editions except Database.com); zip files are deleted 48 hours after the email is sent, not counting weekends help.salesforce.com
  • All Customer Data, after the contract ends: Request it within 30 days after termination or expiration; Salesforce then makes it available for export or download. After those 30 days, Salesforce has no obligation to maintain or provide your data, and it then deletes it salesforce.com

What happens to your data

On request made within 30 days after termination or expiration, Salesforce makes Customer Data available for export or download; after that 30-day period it has no obligation to maintain or provide it, and it deletes or destroys all copies unless legally prohibited.

What you lose

  • Your Customer Data, once the 30-day request window after termination has passed
  • Any promotional or one-time price, if you renew later (renewals are at list price)

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Fewer seats Cut licenses or products at renewal: under the MSA, quantities purchased can't be decreased during the subscription term, so negotiate the lower count before the renewal term starts salesforce.com
  • Student or nonprofit price Eligible nonprofits get 10 Nonprofit Cloud Core licenses at no cost through the Power of Us Program, and discounts on additional licenses salesforce.com

For AI agents

  • Non-renewal is a written notice (email acceptable), not a button: send it at least 30 days before the term ends and keep a copy
  • Word it as a notice of non-renewal: the MSA lets that notice go by email, but a notice of termination (a 'Legal Notice') doesn't take effect by email
  • Read the Order Form first: it sets the term and can override the MSA's auto-renewal and notice terms
  • Licenses and products can't be reduced mid-term; ask for the lower quantity in the renewal
  • Subscriptions paid by credit card are charged automatically for renewal terms unless notice is given
  • Run a Data Export (Setup, Data Export) before the term ends; the zip files are deleted 48 hours after the ready email
  • After termination, request your data within 30 days

After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
