The short answer
- Where: Open the Apple Settings app and select your Apple Account name, then Subscriptions.
- When it ends: You stay on the current plan until it expires, then the account returns to the free plan (or to Special Edition, if you bought it).
- Billed another way? Cancel with them instead: Google Play or a partner.
- Before you go: export Notebooks, documents and whole folders (Apple devices). What to save
- Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options
Before you cancel
Export first
- Notebooks, documents and whole folders (Apple devices): In the library, tap the document title and choose Export, or select several documents or folders and tap Export (Goodnotes document (opens only in Goodnotes), PDF (editable or flattened) or image; folders export as one .zip file that keeps the folder structure). Exports on the free plan are watermarked support.goodnotes.com support.goodnotes.com
- Notebooks (Android, Windows and Web): Tap the document title and choose Export as PDF (PDF). Exports on the free plan are watermarked support.goodnotes.com support.goodnotes.com support.goodnotes.com
What happens to your data
Your notebooks stay: the account returns to the free plan and documents become read-only, except three you choose to keep editable. Goodnotes Cloud data is deleted only after an account has been dormant for more than two years; data stored on your device or in iCloud is not touched.
What you lose
- Editing for all but three documents you choose (the rest stay viewable but read-only)
- Changing which three documents stay editable: once chosen, the selection can't be changed
- Unlimited notebooks and watermark-free exports (the free plan allows 3 notebooks and watermarks exports)
- Renewing a Paddle-billed plan: once cancelled it can't be renewed, only bought again
Cancel, by who bills you
Pick the route for whoever charges you: the name on your card statement or receipt tells you.

Keep it for less
Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.
- Free plan Goodnotes Free costs $0: up to 3 notebooks, 3 text documents and 3 whiteboards, 3 folders and 100 MB storage, with watermarked exports. Notebooks above the limit become read-only until you upgrade support.goodnotes.com
- Cheaper plan Goodnotes Essential ($11.99 a year in the US) instead of Pro ($35.99 a year). To switch, wait until the current plan expires, then buy the other plan from the paywall in the app support.goodnotes.com support.goodnotes.com
- Cheaper plan Special Edition is a one-time purchase on the Apple App Store (not in every region) with no renewal. If you own it, your access falls back to Special Edition, not the Free plan, when a subscription ends support.goodnotes.com
For AI agents
- The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
- Deleting your account or uninstalling the app does not cancel the renewal: cancel with the store you bought from first
- A subscription is tied to the store where it was bought (App Store, Google Play or Paddle); the in-app cancel option only appears when the app came from that store and you're signed in to the account that holds the subscription
- Accounts with the same email but different sign-in methods (Apple, Google, Microsoft) are separate accounts
- A free trial becomes a paid annual plan as soon as it ends: cancel while the trial is still active
- The free one-year Samsung offer doesn't renew and needs no cancellation
- Deleting your account on iOS also removes subscriptions bought on Android, Windows or Web, and they can't be restored; a deleted account is erased after 21 days
Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/goodnotes.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.
Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
