How to cancel PostHog

PostHog bills usage monthly with a free allowance per product. To stop paying, an admin sets a $0 billing limit on every paid product in the organization's billing settings; usage already incurred is still billed. Prepaid-credit contracts renew unless you give 30 days' written notice.

The short answer

  • Where: Open your organization's billing settings in PostHog (app.posthog.com).
  • When it ends: Once a product reaches its limit, extra events are dropped permanently and feature flags return a default quota-limited response; PostHog never charges more than the limit you set, and the free allowance keeps working each month.
  • Contract notice: At least 30 days before the term ends; the term renews automatically for the same duration otherwise. How to give notice
  • Before you go: export Events, persons and sessions. What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

  • Events, persons and sessions: Batch exports send scheduled exports to destinations such as S3, BigQuery, Snowflake, Postgres or Redshift; a one-off file download export is requested through the API (File download exports: Parquet or JSON Lines). Billed by the number of rows exported; downloaded export files are kept for one week posthog.com posthog.com

What happens to your data

Events and metadata are guaranteed to be kept 1 year on a free plan (7 years on paid), and recordings 1 month on the free plan; data older than the retention period may be permanently deleted. Deleting the organization can't be undone.

What you lose

  • Events and recordings above the limit: they are dropped permanently
  • Data older than the free plan's retention period
  • All projects and data, if you delete the organization

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Free plan PostHog can be used free for as long as you stay under each product's monthly free allowance (for example 1M analytics events and 5K session recordings); limits reset monthly posthog.com posthog.com
  • Discount program Startups less than 2 years old that raised under $5m can get $50,000 in PostHog credits for 12 months posthog.com
  • Student or nonprofit price Non-profits get a discount in most cases: create the account and contact sales posthog.com
  • Pay yearly Bigger discounts for annual commitments above a certain spend, through a prepaid credit purchase posthog.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Billing limits are per product: set one on every product you pay for
  • At a limit, extra events are dropped and feature flags return a default quota-limited response: check any app that relies on PostHog flags before setting $0
  • Usage is billed once a month, so a bill for usage before the limits took effect can still arrive
  • Only organization admins and owners can see billing; only an Owner can delete the organization
  • Data above a billing limit is lost permanently, not stored for later
  • PostHog's Terms: the agreement runs month to month unless an Order Form sets a term; prepaid terms renew unless you give 30 days' written notice

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/posthog.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
