Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Cheaper plan Move to a smaller plan: Billing and Upgrade, Manage Plan, then Downgrade under the plan you want. You may first need to reduce active and archived clients and remove team members, accountants and retainers. A mid-cycle downgrade gives a prorated credit on your next payment support.freshbooks.com
  • Fewer seats Remove team members or add-ons such as Advanced Payments: Manage Plan, then Manage your plan under the current plan name; adjust the add-ons, select Review and Pay, then Update support.freshbooks.com
  • Pay yearly Yearly plans come with a 10% discount compared with paying monthly support.freshbooks.com
  • Pause There is no separate pause: FreshBooks suggests cancelling to take a break, and you can reactivate later with your data. Accounts inactive for 30 days or more may be deactivated and deleted (you're emailed first) support.freshbooks.com support.freshbooks.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Retention step: You're asked to leave a comment before you confirm cancelling the account
  • Cancel and downgrade only in a web browser: the steps don't work in the mobile apps
  • Only the business owner can cancel
  • If Billing and Upgrade says you upgraded from your iPhone, iPad or Android device, Apple or Google Play bills you: cancel there, not in FreshBooks
  • Changes made through Apple or Google can take up to 24 hours to show in FreshBooks
  • To move from Apple or Google billing to direct billing, turn off auto-renew there first, then contact FreshBooks
  • Cancelling ends FreshBooks Payroll too: tax filings, payments and year-end forms stop
  • Export before cancelling: a cancelled account that stays inactive may be deleted

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/freshbooks.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
