The short answer
- Where: Sign in as the Account Owner, open the profile icon menu and click Settings (my.wistia.com).
- When it ends: Cancel Now stops billing immediately; Cancel at the end of the billing cycle keeps the subscription active until the cycle ends. After cancelling you can no longer access your media.
- Contract notice: At least 2 months before the end of the current initial or renewal term (Wistia Terms) How to give notice
- Before you go: export All media in the Video Library. What to save
- Want to keep it for less? Cheaper plan and more. Options
Before you cancel
Export first
- All media in the Video Library: Open the Video Library and its Media section, tick the checkbox next to the total number of media at the top of the page, then click Download in the bulk actions toolbar; the download link appears in the Activity Tray and a copy is emailed to you (.zip). Up to 1,000 files per export; with more than 1,000 media, export folder by folder support.wistia.com
- A single video: On the video's manage page, open the ellipsis menu and select Download; in the Video tab choose the MP4 (pick a resolution and optionally include captions) or the uncompressed version (MP4 or uncompressed) support.wistia.com
What happens to your data
Cancelling doesn't automatically erase your data, and media in cancelled accounts generally remain untouched, but Wistia can't guarantee storage indefinitely and may delete archived data. Billing records are kept for 7 years. Ask Support to scrub your data for privacy reasons.
What you lose
- Access to your media
- Playback of your media and analytics counting (Wistia says media stop playing when an account is cancelled)
- Data kept only at Wistia's discretion: export files and analytics reports first

Keep it for less
Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.
- Cheaper plan The Account Owner can switch to a lower plan at any time on the Plans page in account settings; the account moves to the new plan as soon as you confirm. Billing can't be paused, but Wistia suggests a lower-cost plan instead support.wistia.com support.wistia.com
- Free plan Wistia's Free plan keeps 1 user and up to 25 GB of storage wistia.com
- Pay yearly Annual billing is marked Save 20% on the pricing page; extra users cost $25 a month each on an annual plan versus $31.25 on a monthly plan wistia.com support.wistia.com

For AI agents
- The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
- Retention step: After Continue to Cancel, the flow invites optional feedback before the final Cancel Plan button
- Only the Account Owner can cancel; Managers can't
- Download media before cancelling: a cancelled account loses access to it, and embedded media stop playing
- No refunds: choose Cancel at the end of the billing cycle to use the time you paid for
- Enterprise plans and signed order forms can't be cancelled at any time; go through the customer success manager
- The Terms ask for non-renewal notice at least 2 months before a term ends, so cancel well before renewal
- Billing can't be paused; a lower plan is the alternative
- The Account Owner can reactivate a cancelled account from the Billing page
Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/wistia.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.
Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
