How to cancel Vultr

Vultr bills servers hourly: stop charges with the DESTROY button on each instance or Bare Metal server in the customer portal; stopped servers still bill. Close the account in the portal or by emailing support@vultr.com. Gotcha: charges are invoiced on the 1st of the month, and subscription fees aren't refunded.

The short answer

  • Where: In the Vultr customer portal, use the DESTROY button on each instance you no longer need: a stopped instance still reserves resources and keeps being charged.
  • When it ends: Charges stop accruing once the instance or Bare Metal server is destroyed; accumulated charges are invoiced on the 1st of every month.

Before you cancel

What happens to your data

No deletion period is stated for ordinary accounts: after termination Vultr may keep archival copies of your data files and records but has no obligation to. Secure deletion after termination is stated only for HIPAA accounts.

What you lose

  • Access to your data once the subscription or account is terminated: Vultr needn't keep copies
  • Any remaining prepaid fees, which Vultr may decline to refund

Cancel, by who bills you

Pick the route for whoever charges you: the name on your card statement or receipt tells you.

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Stopping or powering off an instance doesn't stop billing; use the DESTROY button in the customer portal
  • Stopped Bare Metal servers are billed until you release them with the DESTROY button
  • Accumulated charges are invoiced on the 1st of every month, so usage up to the time you destroy servers appears on the next invoice
  • Copy any data you need before destroying servers or closing the account: Vultr doesn't promise to keep copies

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/vultr.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.

Delete your account (separate from cancelling)

Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated hard).
