How to cancel WP Engine

An Owner opens Billing in the User Portal, scrolls to Support and, under Modify plan, uses Cancel plan (shared) or Request cancellation (premium) to submit the cancellation form. Gotcha: cancellations need 30 days' notice, then access ends and all content is deleted, so download backups of every environment first.

The short answer

  • Where: Sign in to the User Portal and select Billing from the main left menu.
  • When it ends: After the 30-day notice period the plan is not renewed and is cancelled; access to the plan is removed and all content is deleted.
  • Contract notice: 30 days' notice through the cancellation form, under WP Engine's Terms of Service. How to give notice
  • Before you go: export Each environment's files and database. What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Cheaper plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

  • Each environment's files and database: From the Sites page, open the environment and click Backups. Open a backup point's three-dot menu, choose Prepare ZIP (a full backup has all files and the database), then click Download ZIP when it's ready (ZIP archive). A prepared ZIP can be downloaded for up to 7 days; WP Engine keeps 30 days of backups. Download backups of all environments before requesting cancellation wpengine.com wpengine.com

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Cheaper plan Downgrade the plan from Billing: Browse plans on Essential, or the Request downgrade form on Core and Enterprise. It takes effect on the next billing date; give 30 days' notice for it to show on the next invoice. Owners and Full users with Billing access can do it wpengine.com

  • Pay yearly Pay annually: WP Engine advertises saving 20% on Essential plans wpengine.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Only an Owner can cancel, and WP Engine support representatives can't start the cancellation for you
  • Submit the form at least 30 days before you need the plan gone
  • Download a ZIP backup of every environment before requesting cancellation

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/wp_engine.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
