How to cancel Render

An Admin opens the workspace dropdown, Billing, Update Plan, and chooses Hobby (no monthly fee); the change is immediate. Compute is billed by the second, so also turn off or delete paid services. Render bills monthly in arrears, so a final invoice for accrued charges follows.

The short answer

  • Where: In the Render Dashboard, open the workspace dropdown in the top-left corner and select Billing (dashboard.render.com).
  • When it ends: The plan change takes effect immediately. Compute is prorated to the second, so a service's compute is billed only while it runs.
  • Before you go: export Render Postgres databases (logical backups). What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

  • Render Postgres databases (logical backups): On the database's Recovery page, click Create export, then click the export's download link (Compressed archive (.dir.tar.gz)). Dashboard exports aren't available for databases on the Free compute plan (use pg_dump from your own machine instead); exports are kept for seven days render.com
  • Files on a service's persistent disk: Set up SSH for the service, then transfer files with SCP render.com

What happens to your data

Not stated for closed workspaces. The Terms say data on Render's servers may be deleted at any time and that exporting before termination is your responsibility; the privacy policy keeps profile information and credentials for as long as you have an account.

What you lose

  • Higher-plan features, right away, when you downgrade (the plan change details list the reductions)
  • All environments and services in a deleted project
  • Team access beyond one member on Hobby

Cancel, by who bills you

Pick the route for whoever charges you: the name on your card statement or receipt tells you.

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Free plan The Hobby workspace plan has no monthly fee (you pay only for usage) and allows one team member and 25 services. Each workspace also gets 750 free instance hours a month; free Postgres databases expire 30 days after creation render.com render.com
  • Cheaper plan Move from Scale to Pro with Update Plan on the Billing page; the change is immediate render.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Downgrading removes only the workspace fee: paid services keep billing compute until they are turned off or deleted
  • Render bills in arrears at the start of each month, so expect one more invoice after you stop
  • On Pro or Scale, the workspace fee is waived only for a month with no services (live or suspended) and no activity
  • A Hobby workspace with a card on file is still billed for bandwidth or pipeline minutes above the included amounts
  • Only Admins can delete a workspace; Admins and the Billing role can edit the payment method
  • Each workspace is billed separately: check every workspace you belong to
  • Removing a payment method triggers an immediate invoice for all usage accrued to that date, charged to that card before it is removed

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/render.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.

Delete your account (separate from cancelling)

Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated easy).
