How to cancel Pinecone

An owner or billing admin downgrades to the free Starter plan in Settings > Billing > Plans; billing stops at once, with a final invoice for the month. Gotcha: Pinecone deletes whatever you don't keep, plus all backups and collections. Marketplace subscriptions must also start the downgrade in Pinecone's console.

The short answer

  • Where: Decide what to keep: Starter allows 1 project, 5 serverless indexes in AWS us-east-1, 5 assistants and 2 members, with no more than 2 GB of index data and 1 GB of assistant storage. Before downgrading, move serverless indexes outside us-east-1 and eu-region assistants you want to keep, migrate pod-based indexes to serverless, deal with any dedicated read nodes (they can't run on Starter), disconnect SSO, and reassign or remove members whose role Starter doesn't offer (app.pinecone.io).
  • When it ends: Billing ends immediately; a final invoice follows for any charges accrued in the current month.
  • Billed by someone else? Cancel with them instead: a partner.
  • Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

What happens to your data

When you downgrade, Pinecone deletes everything you don't keep, along with all backups, backup schedules and collections. If the agreement is terminated, you can use the service for up to 30 days to retrieve your data; Pinecone then deletes it as its documentation describes.

What you lose

  • Projects, indexes, assistants and data beyond the Starter limits
  • All backups, backup schedules and collections
  • SSO, and members beyond Starter's 2

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Free plan Starter is free (no monthly minimum), for trying out and small applications: 1 project, 5 serverless indexes in AWS us-east-1, 5 assistants and 2 members, with up to 2 GB of index data pinecone.io docs.pinecone.io docs.pinecone.io
  • Cheaper plan Standard organizations billed by card can switch to Builder, a flat $20 a month, in Settings > Billing > Plans (Switch to Builder), once usage is within Builder's quotas; after the switch, requests over the quotas are blocked instead of billed as overage docs.pinecone.io pinecone.io

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • For a marketplace subscription, start the downgrade in the Pinecone console: starting it in the marketplace deactivates the Pinecone account, and you'll need to contact Support
  • Billing is per organization: all projects in an organization share one billing method
  • Standard has a $50 monthly minimum usage charge; Builder is a flat $20 a month
  • When a Standard trial ends, quotas are blocked and the console is limited to the billing page until you add a payment method, upgrade or downgrade
  • Pay-as-you-go plans renew automatically each month until one side gives written notice of termination
  • Committed-use Orders still owe their committed fees if ended early

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/pinecone.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
