How to cancel New Relic

Pay-as-you-go: in the user menu choose Manage your plan, Plans and pricing, Downgrade to free, give a reason and Submit; usage up to then is billed at month end. Contracts go through your account representative and renew unless notice comes 30 days before term end. Azure-billed: delete the resource.

The short answer

  • Where: From the user menu, click Manage your plan.
  • When it ends: There are no payment commitments past the current month; you pay only for usage before cancelling, billed at the end of the calendar month.
  • Contract notice: Notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the current Subscription Term ends, delivered by overnight courier or first-class mail to New Relic's General Counsel; otherwise it renews for a period of the same length. How to give notice
  • Billed by someone else? Cancel with them instead: a partner.
  • Before you go: export Telemetry data returned by a NRQL query (events, logs, metrics). What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

  • Telemetry data returned by a NRQL query (events, logs, metrics): Run a historical data export through the NerdGraph API, then download the result files from the links it returns (One or more GZIP-compressed JSON files). Requires Data Plus and a core or full platform user; result files are valid for a week and each download link for 6 hours docs.newrelic.com

What happens to your data

New Relic's paid terms say it deletes Customer Data in an account after termination or expiration, so export during the term.

What you lose

  • API keys of a cancelled account: they become inactive and can't be reassigned
  • Sub-accounts, if you cancel their parent account
  • Paid-edition users and data ingest beyond the Free edition's allowance

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Free plan The Free edition includes 100 GB of data ingest a month, unlimited free basic users and one free full platform user newrelic.com
  • Fewer seats Move people to free basic users instead of billable core or full platform users. Do it at the end of the month: a user is billed for a calendar month at the highest user type they had that month newrelic.com docs.newrelic.com
  • Cheaper plan Billed through Azure Marketplace: on the New Relic resource, select Change Plan on the command bar and choose another plan learn.microsoft.com
  • Pay yearly Pro full platform users cost $349 a user with an annual commitment versus $418.80 on monthly pay-as-you-go; commitment contracts with volume and savings plans are offered on Pro and Enterprise newrelic.com
  • Student or nonprofit price Nonprofits can apply to the Observability for Good program newrelic.com
  • Discount program New Relic for Startups helps early-stage startups newrelic.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Retention step: The Downgrade to free window asks for a reason for cancellation and a tick agreeing to the terms of service before Submit
  • Data beyond the free 100 GB a month is billed per GB: sending less data or uninstalling agents lowers the bill without downgrading
  • You can't cancel the last active account; delete the organization instead, which first needs the Free edition
  • Cancelling a parent account can cancel its sub-accounts and can't be undone in the UI: cancel a sub-account directly if that's all you want
  • Azure-billed: deleting one New Relic resource stops its billing, but other linked resources keep billing

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/new_relic.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.

Delete your account (separate from cancelling)

Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated easy).
