How to cancel Mux

To stop all Mux billing, delete your organization from the dashboard's organizations page; it can't be undone, so download what you need first. Prepaid plan cancellation is in Billing and Payments. Contract Orders renew unless cancelled at least 60 days before the term ends. Fees are non-refundable.

The short answer

  • Where: Download anything you want to keep first: master MP4 files through the API and any usage CSVs (dashboard.mux.com).
  • When it ends: Not stated. Mux says deleting the organization is not recoverable; usage is invoiced by billing cycle, so expect a final invoice for usage already accrued.
  • Contract notice: At least sixty (60) days before the end of the current Subscription Period. How to give notice
  • Before you go: export Original video files (the master version of each asset). What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Cheaper plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

  • Original video files (the master version of each asset): Enable master access on each asset through the Mux API (not the dashboard); when its status is ready, download the MP4 from the temporary URL (MP4 with the video track and primary audio track). Each master URL expires after 24 hours; you can enable master access again at any time. API only mux.com
  • Daily usage CSVs, with a row for each asset that generated usage (billing data, not the video files): Open the Usage section in your organization settings in the dashboard and enable usage exports; Mux then generates one daily usage CSV per calendar day (CSV, one file per calendar day). Each file is available for download for 30 calendar days after it is generated; not available on the Free plan mux.com

What happens to your data

Deleting an organization is not recoverable. On termination, the Terms say any and all Customer Data may be permanently deleted; no retention period is stated.

What you lose

  • The organization's videos and data, if you delete the organization
  • Use of the Mux video and API services, which you must stop
  • Customer Data, which may be permanently deleted unless you have copied it first

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Cheaper plan If you expect to spend less than $40, Mux recommends staying on pay as you go instead of prepaid credits; pay as you go includes a $20 monthly usage credit. The docs don't say how to move from a prepaid plan back to pay as you go mux.com
  • Free plan A Free plan with no credit card: 100K free delivery minutes a month, up to 10 videos stored, on-demand videos only. Usage CSV exports aren't available on it mux.com mux.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Mux can't pause an account in full: asset storage carries a per minute charge, so delete assets or the organization to stop it
  • Deleting the organization is Mux's suggested way to make sure you're no longer billed at all, and it can't be undone
  • Removing public playback IDs stops delivery, and disabling your own ingest methods prevents new ingest charges, but storage keeps billing
  • Storage is prorated by the percentage of the month a video is stored, so deleting assets sooner lowers the storage charge
  • Download master MP4s (API only, URLs expire after 24 hours) and usage CSVs before deleting anything

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/mux.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
