How to cancel MATLAB

MATLAB is sold as annual licenses (12 months, maintenance included) or perpetual licenses with yearly Software Maintenance Service. Renewals are bought from a quote or in the License Center. MathWorks publishes no cancel or auto-renewal steps: ask Customer Support through its billing case form or by phone.

The short answer

  • Where: Open MathWorks Contact Support and choose Sales, Billing, and Other Questions, then Billing or invoice questions (mathworks.com).
  • When it ends: An annual license gives the right to use the software for a 12-month period. A perpetual license can be used indefinitely; only its Software Maintenance Service is renewed.
  • Want to keep it for less? Cheaper plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

What you lose

  • Upgrades, support and online license management that come with Software Maintenance Service
  • The ability to buy and install add-on products, which needs an active subscription

Cancel, by who bills you

Pick the route for whoever charges you: the name on your card statement or receipt tells you.

Ask MathWorks Customer Support

Web form MATLAB annual licenses and Software Maintenance Service renewals: Standard and Education licenses (renewed from a quote) and Home and Student annual licenses (renewed in the License Center). Who can cancel: The license holder. MathWorks doesn't say which roles can stop a renewal; its contact page handles license administrator changes separately.

  1. Open MathWorks Contact Support and choose Sales, Billing, and Other Questions, then Billing or invoice questionsYou should see: Billing or invoice questions
  2. Submit a case that names the license (include the license number) and asks to stop its renewal; or call Customer Support at 508-647-7000, Monday to Friday, 08:30-18:30 ET

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Cheaper plan With a perpetual license you keep the right to use the software indefinitely; what you renew yearly is Software Maintenance Service (upgrades, support, online license management). Without it you can't buy or install add-on products mathworks.com mathworks.com mathworks.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • MathWorks documents no cancel button: renewals are purchases from a quote (Standard, Education) or in the License Center after signing in (Home, Student annual)
  • Confirm the license type first: annual and perpetual licenses end differently
  • Delete my account is a separate request on MathWorks' contact page; the pages don't say it ends a license or its renewal

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/matlab.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.

Delete your account (separate from cancelling)

Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated hard).

Not confirmed yet

  • MathWorks' public pages don't say whether annual licenses or Software Maintenance Service renew automatically, or how to stop a renewal; that would be in the Store Terms and Conditions or the License Center, which need a browser or sign-in
  • Notice periods, refunds and fees for ending a license aren't stated on MathWorks' public pricing, maintenance or contact pages
  • What MathWorks sends to confirm a stopped renewal isn't documented
  • Whether an annual license stops working the day its 12-month period ends isn't spelled out on the pricing page
  • Prices for Home, Student, Academic and Startup licenses aren't listed on the pricing page, so no cheaper-license comparison is given
  • Licenses bought through a local MathWorks representative or distributor may follow that seller's terms; those aren't documented here
