The short answer
- Where: Sign in as a workspace admin and open Settings, then Administration, then Billing (linear.app).
- When it ends: At the end of the subscription period (end of the billing month or year); the workspace then moves to the free plan.
- Before you go: export Workspace issue data. What to save
- Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options
Before you cancel
Export first
- Workspace issue data: Open Settings > Administration > Import Export and use the export button at the bottom of the page; Linear emails a download link when the export is ready (CSV). Only workspace admins can export (on Enterprise plans, only owners). The link expires after 12 hours, and attachment files aren't included linear.app
- Issues, projects and more: Export through Linear's API linear.app
What happens to your data
Nothing is deleted when you cancel; on the Free Version Linear keeps user submissions and user information, but the Terms let it delete them later. Deleting the workspace means no Free Version.
What you lose
- Paid-plan features once the subscription period ends
- Creating new issues once the workspace has more than 250 issues
- Any unused AI credit balance if the workspace is deleted (added funds are non-refundable and expire 12 months after purchase)
Cancel, by who bills you
Pick the route for whoever charges you: the name on your card statement or receipt tells you.
Billed by Linear
- Sign in as a workspace admin and open Settings, then Administration, then Billing
- Change or cancel the subscription on the Billing page
- Access ends

- Refunds
- No refunds for cancelling mid-subscription; payment obligations are non-refundable except as the Terms state
Non-renewal by email (Terms)
- Email billing@linear.app before the subscription period renews to say you do not want it renewed
- Keep Linear's written confirmation of the cancellation
- Confirm it worked
- Linear's written confirmation; the Terms make email non-renewal conditional on it
- Access ends
- At the end of the current subscription period
- Refunds
- Payment obligations are non-cancelable and, except as the Terms expressly state, non-refundable

Keep it for less
Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.
- Free plan Cancelling or not renewing drops the workspace to Linear's free plan (the Terms' Free Version). Every user becomes an admin, and with over 250 issues you can no longer create new ones linear.app linear.app
- Fewer seats You're billed for unsuspended users. On yearly plans, suspending users earns a credit toward future invoices or renewals (not a refund); removing a user mid-month earns no credit for the rest of that month linear.app
- Student or nonprofit price Nonprofits get 75% off Basic and Business (not Enterprise); university staff get 75% off at qualifying institutions, and full-time students can get free access for one year for student-led programs linear.app
- Discount program Startup program: startups affiliated with an official Linear partner get free access to the Business plan. Only for non-paying users with fewer than 50 employees; when the free period ends, the workspace moves to the free plan linear.app
For AI agents
- The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
- Only a workspace admin can open Settings > Administration > Billing to change or cancel the subscription
- Cancelling deletes nothing; deleting the workspace is a separate step and removes the Free Version
- Email non-renewal to billing@linear.app counts only once Linear confirms it in writing
- AI credit top-ups are billed by Stripe on a separate invoice, are non-refundable, and are lost if the workspace is deleted
Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/linear.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.
Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
