How to cancel Gusto

Admins cancel in Gusto: company name (bottom-left), Plan & billing, Cancel account; give a reason, choose tax handling, type the company name and confirm. It ends immediately. Accountant- or partner-billed accounts cancel through them. Gotcha: you can't cancel mid-payroll, and cancelling after the 5th bills the full month.

The short answer

  • Where: Sign in as an admin. If any payroll runs on AutoPilot, turn it off first: go to Pay, click Settings, scroll to Pay Schedule, click Edit next to AutoPilot, turn it off and click Save.
  • When it ends: Immediately.
  • Billed by someone else? Cancel with them instead: a partner.
  • Want to keep it for less? Cheaper plan and more. Options

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Retention step: The flow asks you to select a reason for canceling and give feedback before continuing
  • Turn off AutoPilot on every payroll before cancelling
  • If Gusto manages the company's benefits, contact Gusto before cancelling
  • Cancel by the fifth of the month, before running that month's payroll, to avoid a full month's charge
  • If the business is closing, Gusto offers payroll closure services from its partner SimpleClosure; buying them is optional

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/gusto.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
