How to cancel Bitbucket

Where you cancel depends on when you bought: plans bought before September 10, 2025 change to Free in Workspace settings, Plan details; newer subscriptions are deactivated at admin.atlassian.com/billing. Billing is per workspace member, renewals aren't refunded, and deactivating a trial ends it at once. Clone repositories first.

The short answer

  • Where: Select the Settings cog on the top navigation bar, then Workspace settings (bitbucket.org).
  • Before you go: export Each Git repository, with its files and history. What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

  • Each Git repository, with its files and history: Open the repository and select the Clone button, then clone it with git over HTTPS or SSH (or with Sourcetree or VS Code) (Git repository) support.atlassian.com

What happens to your data

Atlassian's deactivation guide says product data is kept for a period that depends on the plan; Bitbucket-specific retention is not stated.

What you lose

  • Paid-plan limits: Free caps the workspace at 5 users, 50 build minutes a month and 1 GB of large file storage
  • Saved Premium settings (lost when a missed payment drops a Premium workspace to Free)

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Free plan Bitbucket Free covers up to 5 users with unlimited public and private repositories, 50 build minutes a month and 1 GB of large file storage; those amounts can't be exceeded on Free atlassian.com support.atlassian.com support.atlassian.com
  • Cheaper plan An admin can move between Premium and Standard from the workspace settings (Plan details, Change plan) support.atlassian.com atlassian.com
  • Fewer seats Every workspace member is a billable user and the card is charged at the end of each monthly cycle for the users in the workspace, so remove members you no longer need before the cycle ends support.atlassian.com
  • Student or nonprofit price Signing up with an academic email address converts the account to an unlimited academic plan; nonprofits can apply for a Bitbucket Cloud Community subscription (unlimited private repositories for unlimited contributors) atlassian.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Check when the subscription was bought: before September 10, 2025, billing lives in Bitbucket's workspace settings; on or after, in the Atlassian billing account
  • Billing counts every workspace member, charged on the last day of each monthly cycle
  • A missed payment drops a workspace-billed plan to Free (5 users) and deactivates a subscription on the new billing system
  • On the Atlassian billing system, deactivating during a Standard or Premium free trial ends the trial immediately
  • Clone every repository you need before deactivating
  • Bitbucket's usage-based billing is migrating to Atlassian Administration, so billing screens may move

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/bitbucket.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.

Delete your account (separate from cancelling)

Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated medium).
