How to cancel Tailscale

An Owner, Admin or Billing admin opens the admin console's Billing page, picks Cancel subscription from the Your plan menu and confirms. The tailnet moves to the free Personal plan (six users, non-commercial) when the billing period ends. Tailnets over six users must remove users first. Prepaid fees aren't refunded.

The short answer

  • Where: If the tailnet has more than six users, delete or suspend users until six or fewer remain (console.tailscale.com).
  • When it ends: At the end of the current billing period the tailnet moves to the free Personal plan; you keep the paid plan and its features until then.
  • Billed by someone else? Cancel with them instead: a partner.
  • Before you go: export Invoices. What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Free plan and more. Options

Keep it for less

  • Cheaper plan Move to a cheaper paid plan: Billing page, Switch plan, Downgrade on the plan you want, then Confirm downgrade. It takes effect at the end of the billing period tailscale.com
  • Fewer seats Change your seat count: Billing page, Edit amount, then enter the total you want in New total seats tailscale.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • Cancelling downgrades the tailnet to the free Personal plan; it does not delete the tailnet
  • With more than six users, delete or suspend users before cancelling
  • If a downgrade is already scheduled, Cancel subscription is disabled: cancel the scheduled change first
  • A scheduled cancellation or downgrade can be undone before it takes effect from the Scheduled changes banner (Cancel all scheduled changes)
  • Deleting the tailnet (Owner only) cancels subscriptions immediately and permanently deletes its data
  • Cancelling a Tailscale subscription on Azure Marketplace does not delete the tailnet
  • Cancelling an AWS Marketplace subscription stops future AWS charges; refunds there aren't automatic

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/tailscale.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.

Delete your account (separate from cancelling)

Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated limited).
