How to cancel PlanetScale

There's no cancel button: billing is per database, so an admin deletes each database (Settings, Delete database), which ends its plan and prorates the fee; usage to that date is on the final invoice. Gotcha: deletion is permanent and also deletes backups, so export first. Enterprise: email notices@planetscale.com.

The short answer

  • Where: Export or back up anything you need first: deleting a database also deletes its backups.
  • When it ends: Immediately for each deleted database: its plan ends, the plan fee is prorated on the current invoice, and usage is charged through the deletion date.
  • Contract notice: In writing, by email to notices@planetscale.com. The term and any renewal notice are set in your Enterprise order form, which isn't public. How to give notice
  • Before you go: export A Vitess database branch (schema and data). What to save
  • Want to keep it for less? Cheaper plan and more. Options

Before you cancel

Export first

  • A Vitess database branch (schema and data): For a Vitess database, run pscale database dump with the database and branch name; it writes SQL (the default, mydumper-compatible), JSON or CSV (SQL, JSON or CSV). Vitess only: the CLI doesn't offer dump for Postgres or Neki databases. Do it before deleting, which permanently removes all data and backups planetscale.com planetscale.com
  • Postgres backups: Backups run automatically and can be restored to a new branch; the default schedule keeps them 2 days. Restoring creates a new branch inside PlanetScale; no download of a backup is documented. Backups are deleted with the database planetscale.com planetscale.com

What happens to your data

Deleting a database permanently removes all its data and backups, and PlanetScale is not obligated to keep customer content after the agreement ends.

What you lose

  • The database and all of its branches, data and backups (deletion can't be undone)
  • Connections: applications connected to the database are disconnected

Cancel, by who bills you

Pick the route for whoever charges you: the name on your card statement or receipt tells you.

Keep it for less

Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.

  • Cheaper plan Resize to a smaller cluster: clusters are billed by instance size and prorated to the millisecond, and single-node Postgres starts at $5 a month planetscale.com planetscale.com
  • Cheaper plan Delete branches you don't need: each branch runs on its own cluster and is billed separately planetscale.com

For AI agents

  • The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
  • There is no plan-level cancel: charges stop only when every database in the organization is deleted
  • Deleting is permanent and takes the backups with it: export the data first (pscale database dump works for Vitess databases only)
  • Only Organization Administrators and Database Administrators can delete databases
  • Usage up to the deletion date is still billed on the final invoice, monthly in arrears
  • There is no free plan to fall back to: every database needs a paid Base plan
  • Each organization is billed separately: check every organization you belong to
  • If you added Business support (priced through PlanetScale's sales team), ask PlanetScale to end it too: deleting databases isn't documented as ending it

Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/planetscale.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.

Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.

  • How to delete a whole PlanetScale organization, and whether a card can be removed once no databases remain, is not documented on pages we read
  • Enterprise and AWS Marketplace terms (term length, renewal, notice) are set in order forms we could not read; the online Terms have no clause for ending the agreement for convenience
  • The delete steps quoted are from the Postgres settings page; Vitess and Neki databases are deleted from their settings pages too, per the billing page, but their exact screens were not read
  • Which database engines pscale database dump supports, and its output formats, could not be quoted; exporting Postgres data out of PlanetScale is not documented on pages we read
