The short answer
- Where: Open each deployed app in the Modal dashboard and click the red Stop app button on its Overview page, or run modal app stop from the command line (modal.com).
- When it ends: A stopped app stops at once; it can't be restarted, only redeployed from its source files. Usage up to then is charged at the end of the billing cycle, or sooner the first time usage passes certain thresholds.
- Contract notice: Written notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the end of the term. How to give notice
- Want to keep it for less? Cheaper plan and more. Options

For AI agents
- The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
- Stopping an app is destructive: it can't be restarted, only redeployed
- Each workspace is billed monthly on its own: stop apps in every workspace
- A payment method must stay on file to use Modal; to remove it and delete the workspace, email support@modal.com
- A spend limit (Usage & Billing page) is a monthly cap on out-of-pocket charges; at the limit Modal stops workloads that would cost more
- Usage can be charged mid-cycle the first time it passes certain thresholds
- Billing questions go to billing@modal.com
Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/modal.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.
Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
