The short answer
- Where: Delete the apps you no longer need. The CLI command is fly apps destroy, followed by the app name (docs.fly.io).
- When it ends: Usage stops as each resource is removed. Billing is pro-rated for the time resources are provisioned. Stopped and suspended Machines keep billing per second for their rootfs.
- Contract notice: No notice period is stated. Notice must be written and sent by email to legal@fly.io. How to give notice
- Want to keep it for less? Pause and more. Options
Before you cancel
What happens to your data
Barring legal requirements, the full profile is deleted within 30 days. Invoices are kept as required by tax and accounting law.
What you lose
- Apps you delete from the platform
- Your name, username and email on the account record, plus sign-in identities and API tokens
- Custom domains, once you remove their certificates
- Your account and the personal information linked to it, once deletion is selected
Cancel, by who bills you
Pick the route for whoever charges you: the name on your card statement or receipt tells you.
Stop usage charges
- Delete the apps you no longer need. The CLI command is fly apps destroy, followed by the app name
- Destroy the volumes you no longer need, since volumes are billed whether or not they are attached to a Machine
- Delete any Managed Postgres cluster separately, because deleting an app doesn't delete its database
- Remove any extensions: partner services are billed at their list prices on your monthly Fly.io bill
- Access ends
- Usage stops as each resource is removed. Billing is pro-rated for the time resources are provisioned. Stopped and suspended Machines keep billing per second for their rootfs
- Refunds
- Fly.io will discuss a refund if you create compute resources by mistake. Email billing@fly.io
Delete the whole account
- Delete or leave the organizations you belong to, and delete apps (or leave the organizations that own them)
- Remove certificates so custom domains are released, and remove extensions so partners stop billing you
- Log into the Fly.io dashboard, go to Account, then Settings, then Delete Account
- When the clean-up is done, click Delete
- Access ends
- Deleting removes your name, username and email address from the account record and revokes sign-in identities and API tokens. Fly.io's privacy policy says the full profile is deleted within 30 days, barring legal requirements
Legacy Hobby, Launch or Scale plan
- Go to the Organizations page in the dashboard
- Click the organization name, then click Choose Pay As You Go
- Access ends
- A legacy plan continues until you convert to Pay As You Go, delete your payment method, or stop using Fly.io. Legacy plan billing and included usage are pro-rated over the month
- Fees
- After changing, you can't return to the paid Hobby plan
Written notice under the Terms of Service
- Send written notice to legal@fly.io that you are terminating the agreement
- Access ends
- The terms say termination is effective at the end of the then current Subscription Term
- Notice
- No notice period is stated. Notice must be written and sent by email to legal@fly.io
- Fees
- Amounts owed become immediately due and payable. Fees are billed in advance monthly, and unpaid amounts accrue interest

Keep it for less
Before cancelling, check whether one of these does the job. Offers change and differ by account.
- Pause Stop Machines instead of destroying them. You pay only for their rootfs while they are stopped docs.fly.io
- Pay yearly Reserve a block of compute time for a 40% discount, paid upfront for the year as a monthly credit that doesn't roll over docs.fly.io
For AI agents
- The person signs in and handles any two-factor code; an agent should never ask for a password.
- Deleting an app doesn't delete its Managed Postgres database. Delete the cluster separately
- Volumes in pending_destroy state don't accrue charges, but volumes you create are billed whether or not a Machine uses them
- Stopped Machines still bill for rootfs, so stopping alone doesn't end the charge
- Remove extensions before deleting the account so partners don't keep billing you
- Fly.io can't process account deletion requests sent by email: delete the account from the dashboard
- Support plans are bought in the Support section of the dashboard; for account management questions, email billing@fly.io
- Most accounts need a valid credit card on file, so removing the card may not be possible while the account is open
- Fly.io's terms say it isn't obligated to back up customer data. Back up what you need first
Get this plan as data: get_exit_plan on the Stackcut MCP (stackcut.io/mcp), or /exits/flyio.json. After using a guide, send structured report_guide_feedback for matching or changed steps, missing billing routes or human handoffs; keep unknown language and market omitted. Confirm with the person before the final click, and report the outcome with report_action_outcome, using the exact packet_revision and route_id returned by the plan.
Or give your agent the stackcut-leave skill (a zip): it exports first, walks the steps, stops when the page doesn't match, and leaves the final click to the person.
Delete your account (separate from cancelling)
Cancelling stops the payments; deleting removes the account and its data. Delete-account page (rated medium).
